Over the course of 20 years, Sting is a legend in professional wrestling. In 1988, Sting
started his national wrestling career with NWA. He wore
bright colorful tights and face paint. At the first annual Clash of
the Champions, Sting wrestled Ric Flair to a sixty minute draw. This match would
make Sting's career. He would go on to win his first World Title at The Great American Bash
1990 by beating arch enemy Ric Flair. Throughout his career, He would feud with Ric Flair
and wrestle hundreds of times.
Together, they were the centerpieces of WCW.
In 1996, WCW would change forever. The
NWO/WCW feud took over professional wrestling. WCW became the top promotion in
the world. During this time, Sting changed his persona. He became a dark character. Sting
would dress in black and white. He would keep this
persona for the next decade.
In 2001, WCW was
losing a substantial amount of money. The company was bought by the WWE. On the
last WCW Nitro show, Sting would wrestle Ric Flair for the last time. The match closed
a chapter on their feud. After the WCW buyout, Sting became a free agents.
Instead of signing with the WWE, Sting decided to retire and
focus on his ministry.
In 2006, Sting decided to come out of retirement. TNA made
him a lucrative offer and Sting signed with the company. He would once again become a
centerpiece of a national wrestling company. At TNA's
Bound for Glory 2007, Sting beat Jeff Jarrett to win his first TNA World Title.
