Rob Van Dam is a unique and very
popular wrestler. He made his national debut in the original ECW. There, he
teamed with Sabu and was managed by Bill Alfonso. In ECW, Rob Van Dam had a
classis series of matches with Jerry Lynn. Rob was the centerpiece of the ECW
promotion in its final years. ECW folded in 2001. He went onto sign with WWE. In
his first high profile WWE match, Rob wrestled Jeff Hardy in a classic ladder
match. The match would be one of the best in 2001. However, Rob would hit a
glass ceiling and was stuck in midcard feuds.
Rob’s luck would
change in 2006. At ECW One Night Stand 2006, he beat John Cena to become the
World Champion. Two nights later, Rob was declared the ECW champion. Rob was on
top of the wrestling world. However, Rob’s luck was about to change. In July of
2006, Rob and Sabu were pulled over by state troopers in Hanging Rock, Ohio for
speeding. The troopers found marijuana and Vicodin pills. Rob and Sabu were both
arrested. The incident caused Rob and Sabu to be suspended. Rob would lose both
world titles the following week. For the rest of 2006, Rob would remain in the
WWE’s mid card.
Rob Van Dam became a free agent in the
summer of 2007. He made a surprise appearance at the 2009 Royal Rumble.
In March 2010, Rob Van Dam signed with TNA. In April 2010, Rob
would defeated AJ Styles to win his first TNA World title.
