Batista is a
Smackdown headliner. He got a relatively late start in professional wrestling at
the age of 34. Batista was a former professional bodybuilder. He debut in the
WWE in 2002 as a member of Evolution, along with Triple H, Ric Flair, and Randy
Orton. Evolution would go on to be the top faction on Raw for several years.
In 2005, Batista popularity took him up to another level.
Management decided to give Batista a big push. They would brake up Evolution and
Batista would become a singles act. He won the 2005 Royal Rumble. At
Wrestlemania 21, Batista beat Triple H. It was his first World Title. He would
headline against Triple H for the next two pay per views. The last match of the
feud ended with Batista beating Triple H in a Hell in a Cell.
After his feud with Triple H, WWE decided to move Batista to
Smackdown. He became the centerpiece of the Smackdown brand and headline several
pay per views. In January 2005, Batista injured his back in a match with Mark
Henry. He would have to drop his world title because of the injury and would be
out of action for eight months. He would return to action in the fall of 2006.
Batista retained the world title at WWE Survivor Series 2006 by beating King
Booker. At Wrestlemania 24, Batista lost his title to The Undertaker. However,
the match was the highlight of Wrestlemania.
