Alex Shelly began wrestling in 2002. He started to make a name for himself
when he began to wrestle for Ring of Honor the
following year. There, he would form a stable with Austin Aries, Jack Evans, and
Roderick Strong called "Generation Next. The heel stable would feud with CM
Punk and Ricky steamboat in 2004. He would sign with TNA that same year. For the
first couple of years, he would wrestle in single matches. The highlight being
that he would win the X division title. In 2007, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin
would form the Motor City Machine Gunns. Together, they would win the Tag Team
title in 2010.
